Farm-Fresh, Locally-Grown Vegetables among Healthy Fare at New Weekly GreenMarket Established by MorseLife for Employees & Community Beginning November 17th

West Palm Beach, FL, November 17, 2010 - Farm-fresh, locally-grown vegetables, and other healthy, nutritious and affordable items are among the healthy fare available at the newest GreenMarket in Palm Beach County - the MorseLife GreenMarket for employees and the community held weekly on its West Palm Beach campus beginning Wednesday, November 17th between 1:00 and 5:00 pm, and running through April.

According to Keith A. Myers, MorseLife President/CEO, the GreenMarket is a part of the nonprofit's far-reaching commitment to enhance the wellness of its 800 employees, as well as residents, clients, families and the community. "At MorseLife, we have taken the lead in not merely promoting better health among our employees and those we serve, but providing the tools and putting in place programs and initiatives to make it happen. We take our responsibility very seriously as among the progressive employers and health care organizations throughout this country striving for a healthier workforce and community."

Myers notes that the GreenMarket is part of a larger "food strategy" at MorseLife which has the primary goal of providing food choices to employees, residents and clients and the community that contribute to and support a healthier lifestyle. Its other elements include re-evaluating all food that is served in its cafeteria, dining rooms, café and bistro, in its vending machines, and out in the community through MorseLife's meals-on-wheels program and Homebound Mitzvah Program.

The GreenMarket, he said, is also a part of MorseLife's wellness initiative that includes health promotion programs for employees such as health risk evaluation, smoking cessation, weight loss initiatives, classes on stress, body mechanics and yoga, and other programs, as well as the aforementioned food strategy impacting employees and the community.

Mary Alice Pappas, Senior Vice President of MorseLife Foundation, who is spearheading the effort, notes that the MorseLife GreenMarket is being designed in the style of a traditional European street market. "Our major concentration is to give our employees and the community an opportunity to purchase local, just harvested vegetables in a beautiful and appealing social setting to be created on our campus," she said.

She notes that the MorseLife GreenMarket is under the management of Peter Robinson, who is celebrating his fifth season as operator of the Oceanside Farmer's Market in Lake Worth, and was the originator and manager for ten years of the West Palm Beach Green Market. "With his guidance and direction, we are promising a Green Market to rival all others in terms of variety of organic vegetables, naturally-grown greens harvested with their roots, wildflower bouquets, potted herbs, orchids, smoothies and healthy juices, and in terms of convenience and beauty," Ms. Pappas noted.

The GreenMarket will be on the campus of MorseLife, on the grounds adjacent to the Tradition of the Palm Beaches, 4920 Loring Drive, 3.5 miles north of Okeechobee Boulevard and south of 45th Street off Haverhill Road in West Palm Beach. It will be take place every Wednesday from 1:00 - 5:00 pm starting November 17 and continuing into April.
