Electronic Information Centers at MorseLife Bringing Up-to-the-Minute Employee, Resident and Guest Information and Entertainment Via TV Monitors

West Palm Beach, FL, October 1, 2010 -- Walking into a hotel, the first thing one typically sees is a television monitor that list activities and events of the day - an effective way of offering daily information and updates to guests. When MorseLife, the nonprofit senior care organization in West Palm Beach, Florida, was trying to come up with an effective way of providing up-to-the-minute information about programs and events for its staff, residents and clients of its programs, it looked to the "hotel" concept among other electronic communication vehicles - but wanted to go further.

The new Electronic Information Centers at MorseLife, a service of the organization's professional and community education arm MorseLife Learning Institute, has taken this "hotel information" concept to a whole different level, according to MLI's Director of Education Jimmy Glenos.

Glenos notes that the television monitors for the EIC system are located in five locations - at the main entrances of both its long-term care facility and independent and assisted living residences, and at the employee entrances of these two buildings. Beyond providing up-to-date information on activities and events, the monitors offer a variety of eye-catching content with photographs and other graphics, including daily weather updates, announcement of birthdays, anniversaries and holidays, overviews of employee benefit programs, schedules of educational programs offered to employees, as well as information for entertainment value, such as Yiddish words, Jewish holiday recipes and stories, jokes and sayings - even a feed from its two Facebook pages and website.

He notes that the content for the television monitors varies in line with their location. "For example, the monitors located in the two main entrances of the independent and assisted living residences primarily offer content specific to events and activities within that building, along with images of apartments and amenities for marketing purpose, and the same for the monitor at the main entrance of the long-term care facility," he said. "Correspondingly, the monitors located in employee areas offer content specific to activities, events and updates of interest to employees, including information about benefits."

The Electronic Information Centers utilize a software program developed by a company called MediaSignage to display vibrant and colorful informative content. Two MorseLife Learning Institute professionals update content daily to keep information fresh and new, with feedback and input from all users.

"We evaluated concepts we had seen in other venues, but took a step back to really brainstorm about any and all purposes it could serve - from information to entertainment," Glenos said. "Since its debut this summer, it has become very popular with residents, clients and guests, and is an excellent resource for our employees. I get calls daily from people waiting to see their pictures up there!"

The Electronic Information Centers are under the auspices of MorseLife Learning Institute (MLI), which provides clinical, organizational and professional course content - online and on-site -- to the internal staff of MorseLife and the professional community, instilling traditional Jewish values into modern business practices. Established in 2008, MLI's goal is to be a major center of learning in areas of management and leadership, and continuing education for management and clinical professionals, and to serve as a resource of information and education to lay audiences, particularly seniors and their family caregivers.
