Stroke: Who, What, and Why - and What Next? - Focus of educational series at The tradition of the Palm Beaches

West Palm Beach, FL (September 23, 2010) - Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States suffers a stroke - leaving many stroke victors, caregivers and loved ones with the question of "why?" To address the "who, what, and why," Lizanne Blake, M.S., CCC-SLP, BRS-FD, Executive Director of The Stroke of Hope Club, will present a series of educational programs on stroke - Thursday, October 14th and Thursday, November 4th at 7:30 pm at The Tradition of the Palm Beaches, 4920 Loring Drive in West Palm Beach.

The October 14th program will be called "Stroke: Who, What and Why," and will focus on defining stroke, risk factors, and how it occurs in people of all ages. The November 4th program will focus more on post-stroke - rehabilitation and recovery, living with debilitating outcomes, family caregiving, resources to go for help, and advancements in treatment and research.

Ms. Blake founded The Stroke of Hope Club in 1984 as the means of helping stroke victors and caregivers with counsel, support and treatment. A speech-language pathologist, Ms. Blake holds certification of clinical competency in this area and is board recognized as a specialist in fluency disorders. The Stroke of Hope Club, a program of MorseLife, is a nonprofit organization with the mission of serving the clinical, educational and support needs of stroke victors (survivors) and their families in Palm Beach, Martin and Indian River Counties.

The Stroke of Hope Club offers a full complement of services for stroke victors and their families, including aphasia center classes which focus on improvement with speech and language deficits, speech therapy, computer, reading and writing instruction, communication support groups, cognitive skill support, caregiver training, education and information and referral services. The goals of the Stroke of Hope Club are to increase awareness of stroke prevention, improve community education and provide services to enhance the lives of stroke victors and their families.
